A la Perchoine, Guernsey

A la Perchoine, Guernsey

A la perchoine ("a la per-shoy-n", similar to the French "à la prochaine") is a lovely saying in Guernsey patois meaning ‘until next time’, which evokes the sort of wistfully sad feeling I have every time we leave the Channel Islands. My husband grew up on Guernsey and we are lucky enough that his parents still live there so we have had some wonderful times visiting them with over the years. Guernsey is full of timeless coastal vistas like this, which local artist Frances Lemmon captures so well, and it has a very calming effect on me.
