The Dingle, Shrewsbury

The Dingle, Shrewsbury

A four colour reduction lino print with limited edition of 10 original prints. Shrewsbury enjoys a beautiful park in the town centre with the underwhelming name of The Quarry, which doesn't adequately evoke its beauty! Nestled in the middle of The Quarry is the equivocally-named Dingle - a stunning, tranquil sun trap of a flower garden, arranged around a beautiful man-made pond boasting two pretty fountains. It also contains a bust of Percy Thrower, one of the first TV gardener presenters, who was Parks Superintendent in Shrewsbury for many years. A popular lunch spot in town, the Dingle is well-loved by this horticulturally proud town so I wanted to capture its tranquillity and elegance. The bare branches of the winter trees allow us to glimpse the bandstand in the Quarry, outside the Dingle's open gates. But the focus is on the fountain and the circles of ripples emanating from it: a welcome dose of zen-like calm for many.
